  • Visit the ABCs of Teaching Reading page by clicking hereThis page is a good starting point to begin exploring the website or narrowing down what information you are looking for.
  • The Classroom Stratagies page provides information and a variety of strategies, organized by specific reading skill areas. A helpful chart organizes the strategies and indicates when during reading each strategy should be utilized. 

    • Alphabet Matching is one suggested strategy for working on Phonics instruction. This strategy works to emphasize the alphabetic principle--the understanding that there is a relationship between the written letters and the sounds they make.     • Using an Anticipation Guide is a strategy targeting Reading Comprehension.  This strategy is utilized before reading and works to activate prior knowledge and build curiosity about the new topic. Instructions and example templates are available on the webpage found here
        
    • Blending and Segmenting Games can help teach Phonetic Awareness. Several examples of each type of game are listed along with the materials needed, instructions for the games and example items. See the page here for more information.
